Child Psychotherapy

Individual Psychotherapy for Children Ages 5-12

I especially enjoy working with children.  Parents are an essential part of the treatment team.  I will work together with parents and child to develop a treatment plan that best meets the needs of both the individual child and his/her family.  I incorporate a variety of Expressive Arts techniques such as drawing, painting, books, games and structured therapeutic activities to help engage the child in treatment.  Depending on the age and developmental level of the child, traditional “talk” therapy, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), or Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques may also be employed.  I always encourage the use of healthy coping skills and Mindfulness activities.  My treatment of a child will include some work with his/her parents.  I will “check-in” with parents at each appointment and may, for example, also offer joint parent-child sessions to work on specific problems or practice new skills.  (Please see Parenting section for more information).
