Adolescent Psychotherapy

Individual Psychotherapy for Adolescents Ages 13 – 18

I truly enjoy working with adolescents.  Parents are an essential part of the treatment team.  I will work together with parent and adolescent to development a treatment plan that best meets the needs of both the individual teen and his/her family.  Psychotherapy with adolescents is likely to include traditional “talk” therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques and may also incorporate a variety of Expressive Arts techniques such as drawing, painting, books, games and structured therapeutic activities.  I always encourage the use of healthy coping skills and Mindfulness activities.  Parents are likely to be more involved in the treatment of younger teens than in the therapy of older adolescents who are preparing to transition away from home.  Depending on the needs of the teenager, parents may be involved in routine “check-ins” at each appointment, occasional progress update meetings, and/or joint parent-teen sessions to work on specific problems or practice specific skills.
